new speed dial padlock.

I'd like to see a pot full of donated money using paypal as an example rewarding winning picker for picking a particular new padlock such as this new speed dial padlock.

First person to send in a video of picking wins contents of pot.

Money in pot held by Toool with daily updates and all publicity goes to Toool.

My suggestion from California.

thanks

Padlockinventor, if you are interested in learning how to mainpulate the Speed Dial padlock, see https://wiki.har2009.org/page/Workshop:Padlock_Hacking (if you want to donate money, send it all to me :)

I bought a speed dial at Staples office supply on Pacific coast highway, Torrance, California. Torrance is a fast half hour south of LAX. Price was USD$7.99 plus 9.5% California sales tax to help pay deficit spending by elected representatives of California.

You can see an image at speeddial.png

it looks similar to this lock from 1871

A body and a shackle. There are other ways!

I'm off to your link after this comment.

I have no problem donating Dutch Gilders.

Back from suggested link.

Are you in Netherlands? That's a long way to go from Palos Verdes and even further in December and January! (winter months). Button on locks rotates 360 degrees and I can feel a slight more pressure when I go in direction to unlock than unlock. I'm going to play with it for a while.

Now a few hours later. No way am I going to feel difference in direction dial moves to open this lock.

I did take about 8 inches of dental floss taking ends and making a knot to form a loop. Loop fits under dial and by pulling on loop can open lock by going in each direction according to current code.

would purchasing a gram fish scale, hooking it to dental floss loop, pulling in each direction give me some clue to finding first direction by gram strength for each direction? I'm guessing not.

Something else. Instructions say to first set lock to open position then lift up reset lever on back and whatever.

Back of lock has a Green warning sticker securely adhered to back of lock over reset switch. It reads in Capital letters for first word. STOP! Do not try to reset passcode with shackle closed. View video at whatever.

What happens if some "clown" sees a video showing speed dial locked to a locker, clown dressed as a student flips reset up and then does a few dial moves? Owner of lock comes along and tries to open lock using their code. Will lock open? and if not this speed lock is not worth USD$7.99 unless comes with a pair of bolt cutters.

Warning is not on box or instructions.

If moving reset lever in closed position disables lock from old code perhaps reset lever should have been built to only move in shackle open position.

Padlockinventor:

About decoding: I did find one way to decode it reliably, as mentioned on the "Padlock Hacking Workshop" page, and I will publish it latest at HAR2009, it just takes some time to write it all down. Basically you pull on the shackle, measure how far it comes out and move the disks separately to find the gates on them. It seems that I need a specialized precision tool for that measurement, and therefore I built some tools, too (a limited edition of 11 units).

About the reset procedure: Why don't you simply read the instructions and try them, then try what else is possible? You will notice that the reset lever can only be moved after the correct combination was entered. Otherwise the lock wouldn't be secure at all, right? I'm not sure what details you have read about the lock already, but there is a paper here: Image:The New Master Lock Combination Padlock V2.0.pdf

Cheers, mh

P.S.: Interesting site you have at http://padlockinventor.com/ (I'm just having a hard time finding some pictures of your own 142 locks?)

You are correct reset lever cannot be moved when locked. I tried it.
If it's moved when shackle is open and you are not very careful about writing directions you could be in deep trouble or have to call ML for a replacement.

Images of my locks are as elusive as opening this speed dial lock without code.

I tried using a shim from a tomato can lid instead of a thinner beer can shim I watched someone else using on a youtube video. Something went wrong and it had nothing to do with reset lever. Speed dial lost its speed and died. east, north, north, west code no longer worked. then I see one of my 10 pound Chrome dumbbells and got to thinking why not test how resistant speed dial lock is to a sharp hit with a 10 pound dumbbell. Two good hits later and

If you make a video on this Speed Dial I'll link it from my site giving you credit or anyone else.

Good luck. My days of locking picking are over.
